You will need :
- A piece of leather, approx. 22cm x 10cm (approx. 8.7" x 4")
- Scissors
- Leather glue or super glue
- Thread
- A snap button
1. Cut an oval piece of leather, approx. 22cm x 10cm (approx. 8.7" x 4"). You can make it longer or smaller, depending on the size of your wrist.

2. Form a bow.

3. Secure the bow by wrapping thread around it and knot.

4. Cut a small rectangle of leather, approx. 4cm x 1cm / 1.6" x 0.4"

5. Glue the small band of leather over the thread.

6. Sew the snap button, one part of the button at one end of the leather, and the other at the other side.

And Voila!

Have a lovely day!

This is great! I am going to make them for my girlfriends, as gifts .Could you tell me where you buy your leather? I have access to Joann's fabric and other smaller places here in Chicago, but finding certain materials is often difficult.
ReplyDeleteHi Katie, I'm so glad you like the bracelet and will make some as gifts!
ReplyDeleteI actually used leather from a broken bag I had.
As I live in Switzerland I am not really familiar with american stores, but I asked a friend and she said that if you didn't find what you're looking for at Joann's fabric, you could try http://www.leatherunltd.com/ She has ordered from this site and was happy with her purchase, but I have never seen their leather myself.
I hope you'll find a nice leather!
Thanks! I actually found scrap leather at Michael's craft store. I made one, in dark brown, last night and it turned out really cute! I think my friend will like it :) Overall, pretty easy to make. It took me awhile to get the hang of it, but when I make another, it won't take as long. I will also look into that leather website as well, for future projects. -Katie

Oh man I can't believe it, I made a similar cuff bracelet out of a shirt cuff (posting it on my blog monday as part of my Button Down Rehab series). I was browsing through the projects on One Pretty Thing and I saw this and thought that looks familiar! haha great minds think alike. :)

This is such a cute and cool idea - now I know what to make for christmas presents this year :D
ReplyDeleteawesome idea. can't wait to try it. thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteBrittany
LOVE this idea, sheer brilliance! I found this on Pinterest and had to make it as a Christmas present. My sister and I have a deal that we make each other's gifts every year, and now we can have matching bracelets! Thank you so much for sharing! It turned out great!
ReplyDeleteAnd just FYI--anyone who is crafty but doesn't often sew or put buttons on anything, I'm not exactly proficient but found this pretty simple. I'd say finding the supplies was the most challenging part! (finding snap buttons in Michaels was like a needle in a haystack!) but that's just because it was Black Friday and no one around to ask haha. Well worth it though, and so cheap!
finally made one of my own and i love it!! i'll make these for my girlfriends for christmas this year :)
ReplyDeleteI found this on Pinterest months ago, and I'm so glad I did! I'm just finishing up my own leather bracelet! I'm giving this as a Christmas gift, like so many other people. I used some scrap suede from Michael's, which gives a bit of a different look--it's a little softer and thinner, and so not as structured, but I think it still works well!
ReplyDeleteI love love love this and can't wait to try it out with an old purse!
ReplyDeleteHi! Silly question, but do you just use a needle/thread to sew the snap closure on? Thanks, looking forward to trying this!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comments! I'm so happy you like the tutorial :)
ReplyDelete@kris : Yes, I used snap buttons that you can simply sew with usual needle and thread. If you have the supplies (or want to buy them), you can also use special snap pliers. It gives a nicer finish, but these pliers can be quite expansive!
Mille mercis!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! I had to share it on my blog today. :)
ReplyDeletehttp://aleksa-torri.blogspot.com/2012/01/diy-tutorial-how-to-make-leather-bow.html
I loved this the moment I saw it and instead of using a leather piece around the middle, I used a polka dotted print fabric for a pop of color and pizazz and for the closure I went with a wooden button....super cute!!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! ♥
ReplyDeleteI love this! :) I also made my own version: http://pientakivaa.blogspot.com/2012/02/ranteeseen.html (Unfortunately my blog is not in English though.)
